Guild of St Stephen Enrolment

On Sunday 25 November all the altar servers of St Columba's church were enrolled into the Guild of St Stephen, at a Mass which was well attended by the whole Parish. This was something that the MCs John Fennell, Pat O’Brien and Matthew Brown have wanted to introduce for some while now. All the altar servers were very happy to be enrolled by Father Barry during the Mass. I think that all the servers will now take a pride in serving on the altar. It is not an easy job but with practice it becomes a natural experience. There are many jobs for altar servers - for example acolyte or cross bearer.

Everyone should be extremely happy that they are serving God on his altar every Sunday. I certainly hope that anyone who is not an altar server will consider becoming one. It is a great job to do.

You are most probably wondering what the coloured cords mean. MCs who are over 16 wear gold cords, junior MCs green and normal servers red. Any altar server who has done less than a year will wear a white cord but not a medal.

On behalf of Fr Barry, Deacon Phillip, John Fennell, Pat O’Brien and myself I would like to thank all servers for their continued support and dedication in carrying out this important role. Well done!!

Matthew Brown
