Seriously, on 9th November, Churches Together in Selsdon and Addington organised an ecumenical event involving St Columba’s, Selsdon Baptist Church and St Francis C of E. , designed to give the congregations of all the local churches an opportunity to get to know each other better. The end result was the Safari Supper...one meal three venues. The idea was almost as exciting as a trip to Kenya, infinitely cheaper (£5 per head) and probably the food would be better than campfire fare.
The first leg, or I should say course, was held at Selsdon Baptist Church. We were met at the door by our chefs, and along with around 50 other diners were served a choice of pate or soup. We ate this greedily, whilst making new acquaintances and meeting up with other more familiar fellow safari travellers. The starter nicely whetted our appetite for the next course.
We walked off our food with a stroll from the Baptist Church to St Columba’s where we were met by candlelit tables set for a Beef Pasta Bake and Salad. All was expertly prepared and served by our very own multi-talented Social Committee, (I must ask them if they hire themselves out for private functions). It was here that the first alcohol was taken, in moderation I hasten to add as we were driving to the next course.
We left our hard working chefs clearing away our feast, to eat our desserts at St Francis in Monks Hill. The church was once again beautifully laid out for the Safari Supper, and we chatted to our fellow diners, eagle-eyed and mouths watering as a banquet of desserts were carried out before us. I’m sure Kevin must have had seconds or even thirds, before coffees and teas were offered.
Finally to cap off what had been an evening of good food and interesting conversation, we were further treated to a choice of liqueurs. All who attended had a lovely evening and would thoroughly recommend the idea to all. We would like to thank all those who had contributed to such a successful evening and look forward to the next event.
