Ahotokurom update

Valuable work continues at the Leprosy village Ahotokurom, which is supported by our parish. Spiritual care continues alongside physical support, and this Easter baptisms and first communions took place in the village. But a major event at the village was the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Ghana’s independence. At Ahotokurom special food was provided, and the Daughters of Mary and Joseph, which was celebrating its 190th anniversary that same day, marked the occasion with a special mass.

One new project at Ahotokurom is the Training Unit. This currently supports 20 young people, too old for school but unable to work, who are taught the skills they need to live independently. In this they are assisted by their parents, and this is one of only a few centres in Ghana that offers this kind of care – clearly a great benefit to the whole community.

Parish fundraising efforts have continued, and in September the first 100 Club draw of the new round took place – congratulations to the winners! We have also had the annual second collection at Sunday masses, and this raised a total of £512.92. Watch out for future details of how you can contribute to supporting this worthwhile cause.
