Ahotokurom update

The website of the friends of Ahotokurom, www.ahoto.org, is regularly updated with information from the Leprosy village we sponsor as a parish. One thing that you won’t find on this website is detail about exactly where in Ghana Ahotokurom is!
Ahotokurom is about 3-4 miles from Ankaful, a habitation near the Cape Coast of Ghana west of Accra. The Ahotokurom Leprosy Village actually grew out of work done in Ankaful after the Second World War. Ankaful is near the larger town of Saltpond. Information about the towns of Saltpond and Ankaful, including detail on the climate (it was raining when I looked!) can be found on the internet with a fairly basic search. Ahotokurom however is a relatively small place, and its name means ‘Place of Serenity’.

The Friends of Ahotokurom website tells you the most about this, mixing the history of the place with detail of the good work being done there.

This work is being continued thanks in part to the support of our parish. £245.75 was raised at a sale in the hall in May, including £123.70 from the sale of plants. In September, the annual Second Collection for Ahotokurom will take place. The 100 Club continues to be a good fundraiser, and members are reminded that subscriptions are due from June onwards. If you miss the collectors after the Sunday masses in June, you may leave your subscription in the sacristy in an envelope with your name and telephone number and marked ‘100 Club’. Cheques are preferred, and should be made payable to ‘Ahotokurom 100 Club’. New members are welcome, there are no limits on the numbers of £10 subscriptions each person can buy – parishioners are welcome to purchase for family and friends as well as themselves!
