Churches Together at prayer
Every month, our bidding prayers at Mass include a petition for all the Christian churches in Selsdon. Generally these petitions focus on breaking down the barriers between denominations, and our mission to the local community. Did you know that Churches Together in Selsdon and Addington (CTSA) had a mission? It has been formally agreed by the churches, and reads as follows:
As Christ's church we are committed together to:
- Proclaiming the Good News of the kingdom
- Preaching, baptising and nurturing new believers
- Responding to human need by loving service
- Seeking to transform the unjust structures of society
- Striving to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustaining and renewing the life of the earth.
As well as this shared mission, each church has its own concerns. We are asked to remember them when we pray for our local Christian community:
- Selsdon Baptist Church and Croydon Jubilee Church are setting up new congregations, on Forestdale and towards Sanderstead respectively.
- Forestdale Salvation Army Church is starting more work with young people, beginning with an Easter club at Courtwood School.
- St John’s is also starting more youth work.
- St Francis’ is involving itself in the local community with the celebration of the 60th birthday of the Monks Hill Estate.
- Addington Methodist Church and St Mary’s Addington ask for prayers during times of change and new challenges.
- Here at St Columba’s, we have asked for prayers for our new priest, and for the diocesan vision process.
Perhaps you will remember these intentions, next time the CTSA is mentioned. You might also like to consider joining fellow Christians for shared prayers on one or more of the following occasions:
| 24th April | 2pm | St John’s |
| 12th June | 8pm | St Mary’s |
| 9th Oct | 10.30am | Selsdon Baptist (buns provided!) |
There is also the annual CTSA week of prayer 21-26 May—St Columba’s allocated day is Monday 21st May—do come along if you possibly can
