The Union of Catholic Mothers

The Union of Catholic Mothers was founded in 1913 to uphold the sanctity of marriage and to bring up our children as good Catholics and good citizens. Although the UCM was primarily intended for Catholic married women; single Catholic women and non-Catholic wives of Catholic husbands are welcomed as members also.

More than 90 years after, our ideals are the same, although never in our history has there been so much pressure from the media and other sources which operate against family life.    Recent legislation is destroying family life as we know it.

All members are encouraged to extend a helping hand to those in difficulties and to assist our Parish Priest in the parish where possible.  We meet once a month in the Hall on the first Wednesday.    On the first Sunday of each month the 10am Mass is a Mass for the UCM.    We have a brief coffee morning after that Mass which is a time for members and their families and the rest of the parish to meet together.

At our meetings we either have a social occasion, such as an outing e.g. Ten Pin Bowling, a speaker on a variety of subjects and supper at a local restaurant once a year.  We are always open to suggestions for speakers etc. We have three pilgrimages each year, to Aylesford Priory in Kent, Our Lady of Walsingham in Norfolk and Lourdes. All of these are voluntary but it would be good to see more members participating.   They are very enjoyable and uplifting spiritually.

We hope we are a caring, sharing faith, fun group.  There is no commitment to come to every meeting but most members try to. Why don't you join us? You will be most welcome
