Ahotokurom update

We are now into the fourth year of raising funds for our friends at Ahotokurom. We all like to give to those who are not as lucky as ourselves, and often we don’t know how it is spent or what difference it makes to others lives, we just hope it does. We do know that every penny we raise for the Ahotokurom project gets there and is used very wisely.

We can see the difference our support can make when we read the inspiring story of Joseph Oduro, in the current Friends of Ahotokurom Newsletter. Supported by Ahotokurom, he survived the frightening Boruli Ulcer. When Joseph was ten years old he was infected by this terrible disease and had his left arm and then his left leg amputated. Basically, he had to spend four horrendous years in various hospitals in a variety of far-off parts of Ghana for his seven operations. When he was 17, he came to Ahotokurom, very weak and undernourished. The sisters nursed him back to better health, and gave him the opportunity of education. Joseph is now 24, and is a student at Cape Coast University. His achievements are a tribute to his own great courage and persistence, to the care he received at Ahotokurom and to the support of the Friends across the world. Joseph’s full story can be seen on the Ahotokurom website

The 100 Club in support of the Ahotokurom Leprosy village in Ghana is now up to 171 memberships (an increase of about 30, and there’s still a good chance of winning a prize!). Thanks to those members new and old who have paid their annual subscriptions. Memberships are still available, contact Paul Nattrass (tel. 020 8651 0386) for details of how to pay if you are interested – if we had another 30 members then we could call it the 200 club which means that a guaranteed £1000 could be sent to our friends annually.

We are looking for some fresh ideas for fundraising - all ideas are welcome. It would be nice to hear from some of our younger parishioners. Maybe some of you would like to join us - we would love to have you. So, if you have fundraising ideas or would like to join us please contact any of the committee.

Thank you again for all the monies donated this year, we will keep you informed of any updates.
