Faithful to the Spring

Lord who made the fields and flowers
and set the sky with stars alight
who rinsed the earth in dew and showers
to wash the narcis extra white,

Lord who brought a world of wonder
and set the silver in the blue
Break the hardened soil asunder
to bring the speedwell shining through.

Like the story about the holocaust from Mrs Rhodes, this poem from a young parishioner also reminds us how hard it can be to accept the challenge we are confronted with when we see our neighbours being mistreated by others.

Bullying

A withered old lady,
Her back all bent.
Her ears vibrate with the jeers,
The crushing yells of mirth,
She stumbles along,
Fumbling in her handbag,
Brings out a key,
They knock it from her hands.
Get lost, weirdo, get back to your museum…
The yells go round and round her head,
Helpless,
She stands, helpless,
What to do.
Help her.
What to do,
Get away…
Blackness.

Whene'er

Whene’er you think
It’s the end of the road,
Be sure that He
Will lighten your load.

Whene’er you feel
That you walk alone,
Be sure that He
Will carry you home.

Whene’er you think
You cannot cope,
Be sure He’ll bring
Fresh courage and hope.

Whene’er things seem impossible
And life too hard to bear,
Be sure He’ll lift you up
So please do not despair.

Whene’er you need
A really true friend,
Be sure His love
Will last to the end.
