Parish Profiles - the Newman Association

The Newman Association is a national organisation of Catholic laity and clergy, which aims to help Catholics to discuss and develop their understanding of the faith throughout life. The Association was founded in 1942 and took its name from Cardinal John Henry Newman, who firmly believed in the formation of an 'informed laity'.

Membership of the Association is open to all interested Catholics, and Associate status is available for members of other churches. By promoting an informed laity, who are able to articulate their views, we make an important contribution to the life of the Church. Through continuing education we can help Catholics and other Christians to link their spiritual and secular lives.

The Croydon Circle

The main focus of the Association's mission is through its network of local circles. Each circle runs its own programme of talks on a wide range of subjects: theological, moral and social issues, cultural and environmental affairs. There are also some very informal social events.

The Croydon Circle is the most recently formed circle, having been set up in February 2002. It seeks to serve all parishes in the Croydon Deanery: meetings are held in such parish meeting areas as are available from time to time. Although the accent is on Croydon, we are very happy to welcome members and visitors to our meetings from further afield.

Details of the current programme are posted on the parish notice board.
