Around the church

A Flower for a Loved One

During Lent the church is normally bare of flowers as we all observe the season of penitence and preparation for the great celebration of Christ’s Resurrection. So when we enter the church on Easter Day to find it suddenly light, bright and full of flowers - what a wonderful feeling it is! To share in this transformation is a privilege and one way to do so is to take part in the scheme called “A Flower for a Loved One”.

What’s it all about? Very simply this - you dedicate a flower to the memory of a deceased friend or relative and make a small donation (50p or £1) with which we will purchase a carnation, rose or lily. All the flowers will be included in the displays around the altar and sanctuary for Easter and the dedicated names will be placed on the altar for the Easter masses and your dedications included in the intercessions.

The scheme is organised by the St. Columba’s church flower arrangers, who will take names and donations after all the masses during the weekend 5/6th April. If this appeals to you, please join in and make it a truly parish effort.
