Your reporter first established that Martin Greenwood (in charge of our Scouts) was likely to be a good source of information. Yes, there is a plan to make use of this land. In the first place there will be room for a shed, which would be used primarily for storage capacity. Hooray, if this means that less has to be stored in the crypt! Hooray, if pressure on space in the kitchen and hall is reduced! The remaining piece of land will be part grassed and part concreted to become a useful outside area for youth groups. Perhaps enough space to have a barbecue or to practice putting up a tent? It is hoped that the project will include improving the boundary fence.
So overall the project is good for the youth groups who will be able to use the new outside area, good for hall users generally as the increased storage will reduce clutter and good for our neighbours whose land will be bounded by a much tidier fenced area instead of by a mass of weeds.
The original idea was that this should be a Jubilee project to be finished and in use before the end of 2002. However Martin tells me that the timetable has slipped and it will take a big effort to finish within this timescale. Does anyone feel able to lend a hand?
